Recovery Program Solutions of Virginia (RPSV) is a nonprofit that supports adults with mental health, substance use, and homelessness issues across Northern Virginia. RPSV operates five Centers across Northern Virginia, in Annandale, Arlington, Merrifield, Reston, and South County Alexandria. At our Centers, we offer community referrals, peer support groups, one-on-one peer support, employment assistance, computer lab, Wi-Fi, landline phone access, recreational therapy, socialization, and more.

RPSV also offers 10 virtual support groups covering a variety of subjects, including the ABCs of Recovery and Journey of Strength. Additionally, RPSV’s Warm Line provides a safe place for people to call when they need a listening ear. The Warm Line also offers virtual one-on-one sessions and Spanish-speaking operators. RPSV Board Member Roles and Responsibilities

Role:

This position is voluntary and must be held by a Peer in Recovery.
Supports and further develops the mission, goals, and policies of the organization, what we should accomplish, and how we should conduct ourselves in the process.
Helps develop, in collaboration with board officers, members and the president, a long-range plan for the organization; and defines our strategy and a time frame for achievement of our goals.
Maintains the integrity, independence, and ideals of the organization; and does not allow individuals or organizations to compromise these principles.
Supports and guides the organization’s President to manage the operations of the organization.
Exercises management oversight over the President and the operations, works with the Treasurer to approve annual budgets, reviews operating and financial results, audits for compliance with internal policies and external requirements, and reviews performance against goals.

Responsibilities:
Be committed to the mission, goals, and policies of the organization.
Perform the functions and work of the board to the best of one’s ability.
Recommend others who could serve on the board or be of value to the organization in other capacities.
Avoid any conflicts of interest and situations that would compromise the principles of the organization or lead to the perception of compromise.
Be knowledgeable about the organization, the services it provides, and the community in which it operates.

Chairman of the Board Position:

The Chair of the Board is the lead officer of the organization and in this capacity shall:

Oversee the actions of RPSV’s president.

Safeguard the integrity of the organization.

Oversee, through the Treasurer, the fiscal resources of the organization.

Serve as the contact point for every board member on board issues.

Set goals and objectives for the board and ensure that they are met.

Ensure that all board members are involved in committee activities; and assign committee chairs.

Motivate board members to attend meetings.

Provide governance leadership and strategic fundraising support.

Be a trusted advisor to the organization’s President as they develop and implement RPSV’s strategic plan.

In conjunction with the Treasurer, review annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; and be informed of, and meet all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities.

Review outcomes and metrics created by RPSV for evaluating its impact, and regularly measure its performance and effectiveness using those metrics.

Coordinate an annual performance evaluation of the President.

Assist the President and Nominating Committee in recruiting board members.

Plan, preside over, and facilitate board and committee meetings; and partner with the President to ensure that board resolutions are carried out.

Act as an ambassador for the organization

Ensure RPSV’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities we serve.

In collaboration with the President and Treasurer, work to generate annual revenue and foster RPSV’s overall financial health.
Help to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major individual donors, corporations, and/or foundation gifts.

Board terms:
RPSVs Board Chair (and board members) will ideally serve a two-year term and will be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings will be held quarterly and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.
